All diving around Mafia Island is influenced by the tides, meaning departure times, dive types, and underwater conditions vary daily. If your travel dates are flexible, we recommend contacting us in advance so we can suggest the best time to visit for optimal diving conditions.

1. Shore Diving
Perfect for lovers of the weird and wonderful, shore dives offer encounters with seahorses, frogfish, nudibranchs, shrimps, crabs, and a host of rare critters often found only in marine ID books. This is classic muck diving—slow, detailed exploration through sandy flats, soft coral bommies, and seagrass beds.
These sites are accessible year-round.
2. Diving in Chole Bay
Despite being “inside the bay,” Chole Bay is the vibrant heart of the marine park and home to some of the best coral formations and fish diversity in the archipelago. Each reef is unique, showcasing everything from tiny banded cleaner shrimp to giant groupers and majestic napoleon wrasse.
These dive sites are available year-round and operated as double-tank boat trips.
3. Diving Outside Chole Bay
Reserved for Advanced Divers, these sites reach depths of up to 26 metres and may experience unpredictable currents. Outside the bay, divers will find dramatic walls and deeper sloping reefs. While fish diversity is lower than in Chole Bay, the action is still impressive—giant green turtles, large groupers, reef rays, and occasional pelagic visitors.
These sites are available from October to March, also as double-tank boat trips.
